THE CHALLENGE
During Covid, ClearTax was undergoing a major strategic pivot transitioning focus from individual tax filing (B2C) to enterprise and partner clients (B2B). The company needed to serve two entirely different audiences simultaneously. The large enterprise customers managing complex GST compliance, and Chartered Accountants (CA/CPA) serving multiple clients. The challenge was multifaceted. We needed to provide a simple yet unified desktop experience for large enterprise customers to handle their business GST taxes dealing with multi-state filing, invoice reconciliation, and regulatory complexity. At the same time, we had to also build a simple yet fun data visualisation mobile app from scratch for 10,000+ Chartered Accountants, enabling them to share their clients' tax data in a clear and consumable way. The stakes were high, enterprise clients expected sophisticated solutions, CA/CPAs needed delightful mobile experiences, and the company's revenue model depended on getting both right.
WHAT I DID
Led the design and launch of ClearPro, a mobile app for 10,000+ Chartered Accountants. Transformed complex tax data into simple, visual dashboards that CAs could share with clients via WhatsApp and email. Made GST filing status tracking, compliance calendars, and client reporting accessible on-the-go. Designed the enterprise GST platform with advanced reconciliation features that used AI-powered matching to identify unused Input Tax Credit (ITC). Created workflows that integrated with ERPs like SAP, Oracle, and Tally, enabling CFOs to manage multi-state compliance from a unified dashboard, enabling the org to ₹200 Crore in overall revenue. Simultaneously led product design and team building. Hired young designers from renowned design unies, onboarding them while delivering critical enterprise features and the mobile app. Coached them through real-world projects, teaching them to navigate business constraints and technical trade-offs. Expanded the existing design team while establishing processes and quality standards that enabled junior designers to contribute effectively.
